Program Description:
UR students are permitted to go on accredited study abroad programs offered by other U.S. universities or institutions. While you will not submit your program application to the UR Center for Education Abroad, our staff will still assist you before, during, and after your term overseas.

Why students choose Non UR-sponsored programs:
  • Although the minimum overall GPA for applying to UR-sponsored programs is 2.75, many programs have more stringent requirements. Students may find they have more flexibility with non-UR programs.
  • No college or university can offer a program in every country. Allowing students to choose from the more than 4,500 options available opens more options.
  • You may be interested in a studying a language or topic not currently offered on a UR program.
  • Some non-UR programs offer unique opportunities such as multi-country itineraries or rigorous, field-based research.
  • You may wish to study directly at an institution or university with which the University of Rochester does not currently have an affiliation.
How to Apply to a non-UR Study Abroad Program
Applying to a non-UR program is a two step process. Requesting approval from the Center for Education Abroad and applying to the program itself.

Request University of Rochester Approval to study abroad:
  1. Click the "Apply Now" button to create your profile.
  2. Log in using your UR Net ID and password.
  3. Complete all requirements in the application for approval, which will begin your review process. Your request cannot be reviewed until you have completed the Non-UR Program Information question. You will receive an email with the status of your approval.

Apply to the Program:
  1. Submit your application to the program sponsor.
  2. Submit all required materials directly to the program sponsor.
  3. Meet with a study abroad advisor to go over your plans. You will also need to obtain course approvals to ensure your credits will transfer.
