If English is not the first language of teaching at the home university, students are required to have a good English proficiency in Speaking and Writing as verified by the International Office of the home university.

Enrollment Requirements

Students must register for courses from one host faculty only.

Workload per Semester

Full-time students must register for a minimum of TWELVE (12). Students who wish to take more than EIGHTEEN (18) credits have to seek approval from the Dean of the Faculty and would not be allowed to take more than TWENTY-TWO (22) credits in a semester.

Additional Application Materials

Students nominated by IIE to UTM must also complete UTM's online application.

Please attach the following documents upon applying for the program:

  1. Passport-sized photo (blue background)
  2. Recommendation letter from student's Academic Advisor/home institution supporting their application
  3. A status letter from student’s home institution with this format of status letter.
  4. An up-to date certified academic transcript (in English translation)
  5. Study plan essay

For the Fall (Semester I), the offer letter will be issued at the end of May. For the Spring (Semester 2), the offer letter will be issued at the end of October.

Housing

You will be guaranteed on-campus accommodation, offered upon request only. The rate for a room may vary by each College and room type, but the minimum rate is RM20/day (excluding the 6% Goods and Services Tax). Students will be placed to any room subject to approval and availability. The on-campus accommodation for postgraduate international students is very limited and available on the first-come first-served basis. Single students will have to stay in a twin-sharing room if single rooms are unavailable.

Exchange students may also opt to rent private apartments off-campus, located within 3 to 5 km radium from UTM. Contacts of off-campus housing will be given upon request.

Estimated Cost of Living

The UTM main campus is located in Johor Bahru and UTM's Kuala Lumpur campus is located in central Kuala Lumpur. So, the cost of living between both campuses might be different. A range between USD 500 - 800 per month is sufficient enough to pay for a hostel, meals and transportation in both cities.
