This long-term study on community resilience is being conducted in stages, guided by the input of our community partners.  While the specific questions and target populations may vary from year to year, we fundamentally are using an ethnographic approach to understanding community cohesion by asking questions about community responses to stress and change.  This requires that we live in the village, participate in village events (church service, community projects, etc) and social life (community lectures, drinks at the café, and hikes around the village, etc), and look for opportunities to join people as they go about their everyday lives.  Students are trained in in-depth interviewing, data management, and data analysis.  Findings are presented back to the residents for comment and insight.  Upon their return to Rochester students are expected to prepare data for conference presentations in Rochester or other venues.
