Program Description:

Living in Berlin

The EPA program in Germany offers a unique and exciting opportunity to put your language skills into practice not only in the classroom, but in a professional setting as well. It’s a terrific way to explore your career interests while living and studying in an overseas setting. Berlin is the base of a satellite program for politics students. For all EPA students in Germany the program begins with orientation in Bonn. Afterward those interning in Berlin, move there to begin their internships.

Internships (Unpaid, Academic, Work Placements)

All internships in Berlin are related to politics.  Students intern in the offices of Members of the Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany, or in parliamentary groups, located close to the renovated Reichstag building in Berlin's new government quarter. EPA is one of the very few programs allowed to place students in the Bundestag. There is no session during the summer due to parliament schedules.

Courses are taught in German by local faculty. The German Politics course is taught during the orientation session and then concluded during a nine day combined session Berlin, in which all Bonn/Cologne and Berlin students take part. The Arts and Culture class includes a number of field trips. Students have access to several academic, governmental and city libraries in Berlin.

Berlin students are normally housed in furnished apartments.

All classes and internships are in German.

No Visa is required for the programs in Germany because they are less than 90 days in duration. Students will apply for a residency permit after they arrive.

Other Requirements

EPA accepts applications from undergraduate students studying at universities and colleges in the United States and Canada with a 3.0 GPA. At this time we do not offer placements for graduate students or students who have recently graduated.
