Eligibility Requirements

  • Recommended GPA of at least 2.7/4.0 (Student is evaluated on case-by-case basis, respective Department reserves the right to reject application)

Language of Instruction

The medium of instruction is English unless otherwise specified.

English Proficiency Requirements

No proof of English is required for students from partner universities.

Students should possess proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Course Enrollment Requirements

At least 50% of the student's credits must be taken in the host department.

Workload per Semester

You are required to complete a minimum of 9 credits and a maximum of 18 credits per semester. As most subjects carry 3 credits each (approximately 39 teaching hours), you are recommended to take 4 - 6 subjects per semester.

Recommendation letter from a professor or academic staff:

  • NOT Required

You will receive an Admission Letter from the International Affairs Office (IAO) by email in 4 - 6 weeks after the application deadline.

Housing

All exchange students are guaranteed a place at PolyU's Student Halls of Residence. Application details will be included in the admission letter.

Food/meals 

100 HKD per day.  There is no meal plan available at PolyU and each meal is separately purchased. There are many choices of dining facilities both on campus and at the Hall, ranging from quick/simple meals to full multi-course provision of both Chinese and Western styles. Also, PolyU is located right in the city centre and you can always try a restaurant or café off campus.

Housing – in residence halls – 46.5 HKD per day

Laundry and air conditioning in residence – 250 HKD per month

Local transportation 

Once you get your PolyU Student ID Card, you can apply for the Student Octopus Card. You should get the form from the Customer Service Centre at any MTR station and get it endorsed by the Academic Registry. The Student Octopus Card gives you 50% discount when you travel by MTR.

Miscellaneous expenses – 40 HKD per day

**The above does not include expenses for air tickets, local transportation, insurance, clothing, entertainment and textbooks.
